In a thrilling display at the Malaysia Festival of Speed, GYMKHANA by MAM at Sepang on 20th October 2024, Ahmad AlHafiz Najmi, famously known as ApexSayur27, captured the Gold Medal in the Open 200CC category with a record-breaking time that left competitors far behind. Not only did he secure the top spot in his class, but he also set the best overall time across all categories, clocking in at a staggering 54.1 seconds, a massive improvement from his initial 1:05 time, in a dramatic comeback that had spectators on the edge of their seats.
This high-stakes event, backed by KBS (The Malaysian Ministry of Youth and Sports), Rakan Litar, Rakan Muda, and Petronas Sepang Circuit, was no ordinary race. GYMKHANA tests both rider skill and machine performance, requiring precision, control, and the ability to maneuver through complex obstacles while cutting crucial milliseconds off the clock.
Ahmad AlHafiz Najmi demonstrated that he’s a rising star in the racing world, leading the charge for the AMW Throttle Vault Racing Team. Despite challenging wet conditions that could have unsettled even the most experienced riders, Ahmad showcased his determination by pushing his Yamaha Y15ZR to the limit, exhibiting remarkable skill and tenacity. His performance was nothing short of extraordinary.
After his stunning victory, Ahmad attributed his success to not only his riding skills but also to his equipment, particularly the Tekhne Tyre T457 ultra compound, which gave him the upper hand in the rain-soaked track. “The tyres were a game-changer today,” he said. “They gave me the grip and control I needed to handle those tight corners in the wet conditions. I trusted my gear, especially the tyres, and that trust paid off.”
During the interview, Ahmad also reflected on a personal triumph, sharing: “Not only that, I beat one of the Malaysian Cub Prix racers who recorded a time of 54.9, earning a silver medal. A tough competitor, because of his experience in racing and handling, and he also has a great coach and team. In comparison, I was on my own, relying only on the experience I learned from my dad and family.”
This isn’t Ahmad’s first taste of success. He has been a consistent figure on the podium for over a decade, fueled by a passion for motorcycles. But today, he took things to the next level, cementing his status as one of the most exciting riders on the circuit.
